About Us

An International Plein Air Painting Group

Founded in 2004, the High Desert Painters is an international, juried group of professional artists that meets regularly to study the art of painting, to encourage each other's endeavors, and, most importantly, to create plein air paintings in amazing locations.

The group members originally met during painting excursions to Ghost Ranch near Abiquiu, New Mexico.  Ghost Ranch is located northwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico in the heart of the High Desert of New Mexico.   The High Desert continues to be a focus of the group's painting excursions, and, most recently, the group met in Taos, New Mexico for a week of painting on location in the Spring of 2011. The group has extended their collaboration and now also travels to other areas in the United States and Abroad.

High Desert Painters offers annual group shows, to share with the public the paintings that result from their travels together.
